'I fell on SRK's lap' - Uvika Choudhary
Delhi-based actress Uvika Choudhary started her career in the glam world by winning a talent hunt contest, after which she was part of the popular television serial Astitva, and also has a number of advertisements to her credit.
But Bollywood has always been her dream, her ultimate destination, and what better film than the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om to make her filmi debut with? “Yes, it’s a dream come true for me,” smiles the young actress, as she talks about her debut film project.
But wasn’t it a bit frightening being in the same frame as none other than the Badshah of Bollywood, King Khan? “Of course, I was very nervous initially. But things just happened so fast, so unexpectedly, that I didn’t really have the time to react! But the ice actually broke when one day, I accidentally fell into Shah Rukh’s lap while dancing. That eased out the tension in me,” laughs Uvika.
However, on a more serious note, she goes on to say that she learned a lot from the actor as well. “What I really learned from Shah Rukh was hard work! Come what may, whether it’s the first shot of the day or the last, Shah Rukh puts in the same amount of effort. He gives it his best at all times. The passion he has for his work shows,” says Uvika.
Move over to her other co-star, the much talked about Deepika Padukone. Doesn’t she feel a tad insecure, considering Deepika is already creating waves in the film circles? “Honestly, I didn’t have any scenes with Deepika, but she’s a very nice, hard-working girl. My job is to act, and I did my job and came back! Why should I feel insecure because of Deepika? On the contrary, I’m happy I got an opportunity to work with a good banner and talented people. I consider myself lucky to have got such a good start!”
With another movie — Summer of 2007 — already in her kitty, will she consider going back to her roots in television? “I consider Astitva as my acting school; I learned the nuances and technicalities of acting through television. But the small screen has one major setback: you are living just one character for two-three years, whereas in films, you have the scope to play different characters all the time. I believe there’s more scope in films, and right now, I’m enjoying the big screen. But I never say never, so who knows?” smiles the debutante.
