OM SHANTI OM Celebrates Silver Jubilee

In the times when a decent four week run of a film is good enough to take it to a success, OM SHANTI OM has completed 25 weeks at theaters.

On the Friday gone by, i.e. 2nd May, this Farah Khan directed film celebrated a 25 week run. Released across the globe on 9th November 2007, OM SHANTI OM went on to break records all over and turned out to be the biggest first week opener at the box office of all times with a 40 crores+ in collections. Till date the film has collected in excess of 85 crores just from India, hence turning out to be the biggest money spinner of all times.

Commenting on the film's continued success over the months, Farah Khan says, "In the times when it is rare to see a film going through a 50 day or a 100 day run, it gives me so much pleasure to see the film getting such a heartfelt response. It is running on a matinee show at Naaz in Mumbai and I am getting feelers that the theater is confident of the film completing Golden Jubilee there.

"My motto has been to make an entertaining film and going by audience response, I can say that I succeeded in doing that", concludes Farah.

Highest Bollywood Box Office grosser arrives on DVD

DVD Review: Om Shanti Om

MOVIE DETAILS

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, Kirron Kher
Director: Farah Khan
Producer: Gauri Khan
Music : Vishal Shekhar
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar

THE FILM

The film would be remembered for many reasons apart from it's high entertainment value:

a) The promotional overdrive that Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan went on for weeks in advance of the release of the film. Truly, one can't remember when was the last time such vigor was seen for a movie which anyways was a guaranteed success in the making!

b) The so-called clash with Saawariya, which turned out to be such a no-show. The stage was set for a battle royale but Shah Rukh Khan's mere declaration of "I will destroy 'Saawariya'" spoke of great confidence that he had in the film and Farah's capabilities. Result was an anti-climax that saw Om Shanti Om marching ahead from show one with no competition/challenge whatsoever from Saawariya.

c) An amalgamation of one item sequence after another in the three-hour affair. Truly, Om Shanti OmM was a circus that had a dozen odd item sequences tying the script together and resulting in an amusing/entertaining watch.

d) Filmfare awards sequence. Truly the most innovative where no star/actor complained of the spoof at their expense.

e) 31 stars making an appearance for one single song and dance sequence - 'Deewangee Deewangee'. All of this added so much 'masala' to the entire sequence that one wonders how would Farah Khan get something better in her next project?

f) The Manoj Kumar episode where the veteran actor was offended by the joke around his mannerisms. The incident threatened to dilute the thunder created by the film at the stands but some timely intervention by Khan and a few industry seniors saved the situation from turning out rightly ugly.

g) Last but not the least, Shah Rukh Khan's six pack abs that have given business to many a body builders, instructors, dieticians and gym owners!

PACKAGING

The DVD currently on stands belongs to limited edition as it comes in a special cardboard case, which resembles a book. Inside the box is a two DVD case along with an autographed poster of Shah Rukh Khan in his now famous six-pack abs - straight from 'Dard E Disco'. In addition, there is a 16-page booklet, which takes a viewer through a colorful-n-eye catchy professional journey of cast and crew of the film.

DURATION

The film comes in a twin DVD pack with the film's duration being 162 minutes. The second DVD has special features lasting another 150 minutes.

SPECIAL FEATURES

- Director's Commentary
- Making of OSO
- Making of the songs
- SRK & Farah interviews
- Deleted scenes and bloopers
- Promos and Trailers
- Visual Effects
- OSO events (Music launch, Fashion show, London premier, Book launch)
- OSO Trivia Game

Om Shanti Om is one of the most fulfilling, or rather THE most fulfilling DVD, when it comes to special features. Reasons are aplenty with the most exciting being 'Director's Commentary'. For films coming out of India, there are hardly many where directors do take a special effort in coming up with a commentary talking about each and every scene. Heyy Babyy and Johnny Gaddaar are the only recent examples one can recollect. In addition, coming up with a commentary is challenging too since special consideration is required to retain viewer's attention.

In this context, Farah deserves full marks as she not thoroughly entertains a listener while not mincing words when it comes to making fun/light of most of the situations and actors in the film. She talks about number of things that either had gone wrong or could have gone wrong during filming of a particular scene. And she does all of it from her bedroom as she speaks while taking rest as she was 7 months pregnant when her commentary was recorded. Here are some of the highlights of the commentary:

a) She doesn't refrain from announcing once again that her is a filmy-filmy film and the intent was to go all out in making a commercial film rather than trying to be arty or pseudo.

b) How Shah Rukh Khan was challenged to utter his dialogues from DDLJ and Don while being in the same get up and hair as that of Rishi Kapoor from Karz (the opening scene of the film).

c) How Manoj Kumar's episode had threatened to turn ugly.

d) There is an obvious dig at Vidhu Vinod Chopra (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) when Farah announces that all protests against Shah Rukh Khan coming out of water with just his jeans on was hardly justified as those few seconds were far more entertaining than the other film makers' entire film.

e) How Arjun Rampal's wig gave her sleep less nights.

f) Introduction/references of close to 50 odd crew members who were in front of the camera acting at some point or other in Om Shanti Om

g) There is a word of appreciation for newcomer Uvika Chaudhary too as Farah believes that she has some way to go if she chooses her projects carefully. She goes to the extent of calling her a mix of Dia Mirza and Amisha Patel

h) How the main hall in the studio indoors, which was later burnt in the film, was inspired by Phantom Of The Opera

i) She clears the air around inspiration of famous Akshay Kumar 'Return of Khiladi' sequence which was reportedly plagiarized

j) Shirish Kunder's idea around showing Shah Rukh Khan walking back into his own memory in the second half of the film

....and many more!

The 'Making of OSO' intelligently refrains from back-patting and instead takes a viewer through the actual behind the scenes footage and what went into getting the right sets, costumes, make up, lighting dance moves etc. in place. The prime cast of the movie along with cinematographer Manikanandan, art director Sabu Cyril, costume designers Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra & Sanjiv Mulchandani take a viewer through their journey of making Om Shanti Om a complete 70's and today's package.

'Making of the songs' is an extensive view as well as Vishal & Shekhar along with Farah Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and others explain majority of songs from the film. One interesting factor, which is highlighted, is around the placement of film's most romantic number 'Aankhon Mein Teri'. It is revealed that originally, the song wasn't in the film at all but later Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan were so impressed by this new tune which Vishal & Shekhar created that they decided to incorporate the song as a part of the film's background score.

'Deleted scenes' are always the most awaited section of a DVD and here too there are many in abundance. Though a couple of them seem quite justified to be chopped off the final cut (the ones featuring Shah Rukh and Shreyas and later Shah Rukh and Kirron), there are at least two sequences that deserved to be a part of the footage. The funniest of the lot is the one where Shah Rukh in his superstar avatar is shown throwing starry tantrums by first coming late on the sets and then refusing to begin shooting on time.

Also the pre-Filmfare awards sequence had many other actors and technicians talking about super star 'Om'. Wish each of these were refrained, especially the one where Vidhu Vinod Chopra turned really catty. What did he say? See it on DVD!

There is a chapter on VFX too where good detailing is given around how Deepika's portions were interspersed with Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra for the 'Dhoom Taana' sequence. Interesting.

Though there are number of major events covered in the DVD - Music launch, Fashion show, London premier, Book launch - the one, which impresses most, is the London premier. If one has heard and read about mass hysteria for Shah Rukh Khan, this is the opportunity to see how it actually happens when he interacts with his fans. It is unbelievable to see the way crowds literally going berserk in their attempt to be with the star. What touches most is the way Khan not just waves and blows kisses with them but also breaks barrier to kiss and hug them.

For those who wish to check their 'Om Shanti Om' gyan, there is also an online trivia game comprising of 21 questions. And mind it, they are not one of those basic - 'What was the name of Arjun Rampal's character in OSO' kind of questions? Instead they get on really challenging. Sample this - "What was the name of Shah Rukh's on-screen character which was 'Mohabbat Man' for the rest of the world?"

However, we are yet to come to the best. And that segment is the one where Cyrus Broacha interviews Shah Rukh Khan, Farah Khan, Arjun Rampal and Deepika Padukone. Instead of a routine Q&A session, this one is a holds-no-bar fun conversation where Cyrus turns out to be the butt of everyone's joke. Watch Shah Rukh and the rest dressing him up in 70's costumes and coming up with one liners and numerous below the belt jokes, all at his expense!

CONCLUSION

Everyone knows what Om Shanti Om is all about. It is an unabashed take on entertainment, which is on your face, at places over-the-top and doesn't shy away from taking a dig on itself, Bollywood films and industry in general - all in good humor of course. It is this spoofy treatment to the film, which truly made 'Om Shanti Om' the 'Highest Bollywood Box Office Grosser Ever'. Of course, this pretty much mandates that the film finds an entry pronto in one's DVD collection.

'OSO' a 'box-office hit' in Berlin Film Fest

The premiere of Hindi blockbuster "Om Shanti Om" was one of the most popular events of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival, which concludes here tonight with the awarding of the golden and silver bears for the best films in the competition section.

Berlinale sources told reporters that in terms of ticket sales, "Om Shanti Om" featuring superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the leading role was the 'box-office hit' of the 11-day festival.

No other films in the festival's 13 main sections had generated so much public interest as the premiere of the Farah Khan-directed film, they said.

Tickets for the four screenings it had in the Berlinale Special Programme were sold out within minutes after their sales were opened on the internet and many film fans spent overnight at the ticket counters to be the first to snatch the most sought-after tickets of the festival.

Some tickets were later offered for sales on the internet for prices exceeding ten to 12 times the original price.

Shah Rukh drew larger crowds than Hollywood celebrities like pop diva Madonna, director Martin Scorsese, film stars Ben Kingsley and Penelope Cruz or the Rolling Stones band when he visited Berlin to attend the German premiere, participants and festival organisers said.

Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment produced the movie for Indian film financing and distribution firm Eros Entertainment.

OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA set to clash - yet again!

Oops, even as one thought that the full blown war was left way behind, there has hardly been any respite!

OM SHANTI OM v/s SAAWARIYA is easily the most talked about clash in the history of Hindi cinema. Though there isn't any real need to bring on the story about the eventual winner, all this while it seemed that the dust had settled down.

Well, that's hardly the case as the makers of both OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA have decided to release the home video versions of the two films around the same time. Slated to arrive around middle of February, DVDs and VCDs of these films by Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are expected to arrive with a lot of noise and bring on yet another massive clash.

The clock has already started ticking for yet another event in the making!

Om Shanti Om has been doing roaring business in Kerala

Shah Rukh Khan has gone where no Hindi film actors have gone before. The trade reports coming in from Kerala have it that SRK’s Om Shanti Om has been doing roaring business in Kerala.

In fact, it has done better business than their local films released during the same time. King Khan is a big hit down south too. Mind it!

Om Shanti Om complete 50 days

While OM SHANTI OM has already achieved the BLOCKBUSTER status at the box office, it would also be completing a super successful 50 days run at theaters across the country today.

The film has already crossed 85 crores mark at the box office and looks set to add on some more moolah to it's overall collections in weeks to follow. In the meantime, work is already on in full swing to get the DVDs of the film out on stands in international and national market.

If initial indications are anything to go by, the film's DVDs too are supposed to be extraordinary with ton loads of special features being added to give that extra edge into home entertainment media.

Shahrukh khan and wife Gauri distribute bonus cheques to employees

Shahrukh is very happy with the success of his entertainment company Red Chillies Entertainment and he wanted to share this success with all his employees. So recently SRK and his wife Gauri threw an impromptu celebration for all their employees and at the event apart from good food and drink, Shahrukh and Gauri gave all their employees bonus cheques. This was indeed an extremely pleasant surprise for all the employees as they were not expecting such a magnanimous gesture from their boss, SRK.

Shahrukh and Gauri invited all their employees from Red Chillies Entertainment as well as their other employees like cooks, drivers etc to be present at a five star hotel. When the employees got there, they were all surprised as there was a huge celebration awaiting them. A few close friends of SRK who also work with him like Farah and others also came to thank everyone for their co-operation. Shahrukh and his wife Gauri also thanked everyone for the success of Red Chillies Ent. SRK and Gauri had personally selected the menu of food and drinks. The highlight of the party was another surprise by SRK, when he began distributing bonus cheques to each and every employee present at the event.

A source at the party said “SRK is great, he decided to share the profits made by his company with everyone rather than just enjoy it by himself. This obviously was an extremely kind gesture and everyone was very surprised.” Shahrukh Khan has personally had a wonderful year as his different role in Chak De was first widely appreciated and now recently his film Om Shanti Om which he produced and starred in was quite a hit at the box-office. Hence SRK wants to share this success with his employees without whose cooperation this success would not be possible.

Om Shanti Om is a big hit in hundreds movies of 2007

Out of the 236 movies released so far this year, only about 15 have made it to the hit mark. The alarming number of flops in the year 2007 came as a huge shock, especially because it rained hits in 2006.

Till March, only one film, Guru emerged as a universal hit, with all the other ones like Nikhil Advani’s Salaam-e-Ishq, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya, Ram Gopal Varma’s Nishabd, Vikram Bhatt’s Red, Amrit Sagar’s 1971, Milan Luthria’s Hattrick, Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday, Deepa Mehta’s Water, Meghna Gulzar’s Just Married, Suneel Darshan’s Shakalaka Boom Boom, hitting the dust. Nishabd and Eklavya turned out to be huge duds. Then Akshay Kumar’s Namastey London was successful, bringing in the much-needed respite.

july, films like Partner, Chak De India, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiya, Jab We Met and the super hit Om Shanti Om attracted audiences, providing a bit of a breather for the distributors.

Here are 10 reasons to watch Om Shanti Om, again and again

1. Shah Rukh Khan

He proves once again why he rules Bollywood. This is the first film I’ve ever seen of his - ever - (including his earliest films like Kabhi Haan Khabhi Na and of course DDLJ) where I thought of him as cute. And it ain’t because of the six-pack. Endearing in a way that only SRK can manage, he was adorable beyond words as the unfortunately named Om Prakash Makhija. He also gives a very controlled performance in the first half; the ticks and mannerisms that are so irksome to SRK-haters the world over were refreshingly missing. And call me crazy, but is our over-40 superstar looking pretty young and boyish? Unfortunately, it does turn into a case of “would you like some ham with your masala?” in the second half as he spazzes away to glory playing reincarnated superstar ‘OK’. But then it’s Shah Rukh…no film of his would be complete without him hamming it up a bit (the true test of any SRK fan) and in this case, it may even have been an intentional in-joke (I have my doubts). Our superstar can do many things, but he can’t do cool. He just can’t. He’s still the King though. Why? That’s a mystery that SRK-haters will never solve.

2. Deepika Padukone

Watch out for this one - she will definitely be the superstar of the future. Rani, Preity and Ash are soon going to be relegated to those special,”mature” roles - but for those big, flashy, commercial blockbusters, I predict Deepika is going to lead the glamor-doll rat race. While I watched Farah Khan parade Deepika around for the promotion of this film, I was worried she’d wear the girl out. But all that Stardom Bootcamp will come in handy for her. Deepika is big time. Convincingly restrained as the 70’s star Shantipriya and very bubbly as the clumsy present day Sandy, she showed a lot of range in a limited role. There is something eminently watchable and intrinsically likable about her and there’s no question that she’s hot (any doubts, ask a male friend). Everything about this girl screams STAR. And her dimples will give Preity Zinta a run for her money. I just hope they find male actors tall enough to co-star with her.

3. Shreyas Talpade

As the sidekick, no one could’ve been better. And dude rocks the tight 70’s big-collared shirt with style! He held his own against the mega Khan and delivers his lines effortlessly with an impeccable sense of comic timing. Dare I say he even stole the spotlight a couple of times? I daresay he did!

4. Arjun Rampal

This might be the role that finally, finally turns this always handsome dude from model to actor. He does a commendable job as the villain. And talk about cool - this is how cool should look. Even as the old guy he was sexy!

5. Dhoom Tana

The choreography captures everything we loved and hated about those ridiculous song-and-dance sequences from the 70’s and 80’s. Farah’s in top form recreating some of the crazy dance steps that our favorites of the time like Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman and of course the queen, Helen, had to perform. (Note the chest-heaving, facial expressions and the signature Helen hip-shake). It’s so much fun, this one will get you out of a depression fast. The special effects with Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra morphed into the film are really, really of international standard. SRK gets the tone just right and you can’t help but love him for being so willing to make an ass out of himself. Check him out recreating the Jeetendra badminton ground-slide plus leg kick…hilarious perfection.

6. Deewangi Deewangi

Except for the fact that Rekha looks creepier than the ghost in the climax, this song with Bollywood’s finest dancing along with Shah Rukh was a real treat. Rani, Shilpa, Kajol, Govinda, Salman, Saif, Sanjay Dutt, Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi…whew, blink and you’ll miss a major or minor star. Reminded me of that super classic, John Jaani Janardhan from Naseeb where Big B regaled the superstars of that time. Farah has said that it was in fact the inspiration for Deewangi. I’m not really a fan of the musical composition or the stupid lyrics, but you can’t beat 31 stars on one glitter-laden screen. Testament to the power of (you guessed it) SRK.

7.The Filmfare Awards Sequence

Spoofarific! It’s a mock up of the red carpet with the likes of Amitabh, Abhishek, Akshay, Karan Johar and more predicting who’s going to win that year’s Best Actor. See if you get all the in-jokes. The nominations themselves are irreverence defined - Dhoom:5 and Khiladi Returns? You gotta see it to believe it (and brace yourselves for the raunch-factor). Also includes a great spoof of two Yash Raj style movies with Shah Rukh romancing a different pastel sari-swathed heroine in the repetitive style that made him SRK in the first place.

8. Mind It

SRK nails it as South Indian superstar, Omiswami (aka Rajnikanth). ‘Nuff said. (And yes, he IS calling that tiger “naughty pussy”. Family entertainer, anyone?)

9. One Word

Bhaaagoooo! [Translation: Runnnnnn!]

10. Closing Credits

Unusual and inspiring…we get to see every technician who’s worked on the film strutting their stuff on the red carpet. From the spot boys to the grips to the assistant directors to the special effects guys…everyone gets their moment in the spotlight. An unrestrained tribute to the love and glory of films. All the invisible talents who bust their guts and earn none of the glory for these projects are given a face. The closing credits alone made me a fan of this over the top, cheeseball, so-in-love-with-Bollywood-it’s-ridiculous, imperfect-on-so-many-levels-and-yet-so-earnest-you-can’t-help-but-love-it movie. There are many more yummy tidbits for any Bollywood junkie. This movie is vindication for anyone who grew up watching the TRUE yesteryear Bollywood movies, the ones you never told your friends you were watching because you were too embarrassed.

OM SHANTI OM has clearly murdered SAAWARIYA at the box office

If first week battering by two times the collections of SAAWARIYA was not enough, the declaration of second week collections has put the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film in an embarrassing state. The numbers have widened the gap further as OM SHANTI OM collections in India are now close to three times the collections of SAAWARIYA in two weeks time period.

While OM SHANTI OM has crossed 65 crores, SAAWARIYA stands at a pitiful 23 crores. This is only going to get worse over coming weeks since OM SHANTI OM has sustained quite week even in the third week while SAAWARIYA has only seen a journey down South.

Another interesting fact that has been revealed is that the collections of OM SHANTI OM in the second week (25 crores +) are greater than what SAAWARIYA has earned till date (23 crores +)!

OM SHANTI OM has clearly murdered SAAWARIYA at the box office, and how!

Box office Report : Om Shanti Om Becomes Bollywood's Biggest Grosser In The US

As they say, records are meant to be broken and Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ has taken it very seriously and is doing precisely that. After resetting the US weekend record for a Bollywood film, the Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and Deepika Padukone starrer has now gone ahead and become Bollywood’s biggest US grosser. And that in just 17-days!

As per the collections available, ‘Om Shanti Om’ has grossed a humungous $3,421,520 ( upto November 25). Interestingly ‘Om Shanti Om’ surpasses the previous record, which was established by another Shah Rukh Khan starrer, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006), which had grossed $3,275,444, during its entire US run.

The Making of Om Shanti Om : Book Review

I did so myself! The moment one flips through the pages and greedily tastes a sound byte here, a picture there and a quick read somewhere in the middle of the book, you know that it would be hard not to enjoy reading the book. The expectations level are at an all time high in these few minutes itself; something which is akin to watching a full length theatrical promo of a big Bollywood blockbuster film and anticipating it's arrival on the big screen soon!

Thankfully, all the high expectations are met in totality, hence making it truly a collector's delight which can be find a place in your book shelf at least for one lifetime. No pun intended!

This one is no regular/usual behind the scenes kinda book! What you want to read are the quotes you haven't heard before in the 'hazaar' interviews by the cast and crew in the past. What you want to see are the pictures that have already not been seen in the film's promotional brochure. What you want to lend your ear are some gossips/tid bits/grapevine that have already not made it to the 5-scoops-a-day-tabloids. What you want to know are the actual hassles which took place rather than 'working in the film was like a picnic' or 'we were all as one big family'!

And guess what, you get all of this and more! So let's talk about that 'more' first. It is this 'more' which gives a definite edge to the book hence making it stand out as the one that would enthrall not just the followers of Bollywood cinema but also those who want to lay hand on that something extra. It is that extra about dedicated chapters on 'Junior Artists' and 'Reincarnation', ably titled 'Reflected Glory' and 'Borne Again' which makes you visualize the book differently.

To Mushtaq's credit, even though such write ups may have risked being drag/boring/depressing, he makes them quite entertaining. He gets into details like different brackets of junior artists being called for when it comes to a hotel or an airport or a marriage scene or a village setting. He divulges how different junior artists also get classified with different rate card for different scenes. That's not all, if you walk in and walk out of a frame, your pay packet is different from what you would if you are required to be drenched in rain. Interesting!

'Borne Again' is spooky yet exciting. Mushtaq does a little bit of research and Googling to find narrate some high profile cases of reincarnation in India that had made headlines some years back. And for some more information about real life imitating reel, find out what Shah Rukh Khan himself was in his last birth. The research says he was legendary dancer and actor Sadhana Bose! Read the book to know more.

50% into the book and you know that Mushtaq is a smart writer. He deftly handles various portions of the book and provides each of them a different flavor. So while some of the chapters have a core literature look and feel to it, others are told in light hearted tone. This is not all as there is imaginative writing coming into picture as well with one of the stories being told from an Assistant Director's point of view, the other has Mushtaq himself in a conversational mode with the film's crew while one of them is written in a screenplay mode. Easy for the writer since he is also one of the screenplay writers for the film Om Shanti Om.

However, the best is reserved for what perhaps has anyways been hailed as the best part about the film. The 31 star song, 'Deewangi Deewangi'. This is the place where Mushtaq lets his creative instincts get the better out of him as sets the stage with him and his Income Tax consultant looking at all the stars in awe as they take their places and shoot for the song.

Quite funny and one of the lengthiest write-ups, it has some great humor interwoven into the text since Mushtaq demonstrates how a civilian (that's how he calls a star struck fan who seldom gets a chance to see his idol in flesh and blood) reacts to all the glamour around. In one way, the write up seems to be his own alter ego coming into fray with an IT guy just being an excuse to be placed as a character into the story!

If the writer deserves accolades for his detailed work in the book, Ashish Pathak and Jochen Manz, the designer and photographer respectively, deserve full marks for their work too. They come together to make 'The Making of Om Shanti Om' a glossy fare which changes texture with every chapter boasting of a different layout, different font, picture placement and color combination. With no dull moment whatsoever as you flip page after page, it is hard not to hurriedly finish the content on one page (a lot of it on every page) and move on to the next to see what's in store.

Any blemishes in the book? Yes. What could have been one flawless fare is hampered due to the fact that there are some astonishing spelling/grammatical mistakes in the text, especially during the initial chapters. Some basic punctuation errors turn out to be quite alarming, as well as surprising, because one expects nothing but an impeccable product when it comes to a book for one of the most prestigious films of the year. Also, the writer has some reputation to maintain, especially having multiple books on Bollywood to his credit and hence it is disappointing when some glaring gaps like not just sentences but even paragraphs repeating at more than just a couple of instances!

Anyways, ignoring all of this, one is bound to cherish this book which continues to celebrate the book even after it's release. It is a must read at least once and though hardcore film buff may not mind having a second read too, at least the pictures would make most refer the book multiple times. The moment you lay your hand on 'The Making of Om Shanti Om', it's hard not to exclaim 'wow'! Yes, you do expect ton loads of content and some exclusive behind the scene information to be unveiled in this Mushtaq Sheikh book but all of that is expected once you start turning over the pages.

Before that it's the book's cover (yes, this time around the saying of 'never judge a book by it's cover' is proved untrue), styling and overall packaging that makes you plan for three spare hours and find an isolated corner pronto to enjoy an uninterrupted, undisturbed and concentrated reading of this book which turns out to be as entertaining and as blockbuster material as the Farah Khan film has been in itself!

Farah Khan has made an interesting statement - "I think the only crime in movie making is to bore your audience". Well, Mushtaq Sheikh follows the same theory for his book too and the results are there for all to see.

Rating: ****1/2

Some of the interesting facts that are brought to fore in the book:

Farah wanting more boobs on frame by junior artists and not being obliged

Detailing of the most loved Filmfare awards sequence

Farah Khan's cheeky comment - "I guess he didn't want a hit film to his credit" - after
Dev Anand refused to be a part of 'Deewangee'

All 31 stars greeted with 'Oh, you are looking fabulous' cry with none being aware about the prank being played on them

One tight slap by Farah Khan on a couple of crew members.

Goofs around 200 people being dressed in a 70s look when the scene required contemporary setting

Trick behind making the studio sets look burnt when in actuality they were not

The story behind 'Ek Chutki Bhar Sindoor'

Vivek Oberoi turning down role that went to Arjun Rampal

and last but the not the least

The Legend of The Condom Man!
