Is Shahrukh Khan using cricket for promote Om Shanti Om ?
After the record breaking opening of Om Shanti Om (OSO) , more than basking in success of his movie, Shah Rukh Khan is tied up clearing controversies.
While it all began with veteran actor Manoj Kumar threatening to file a defamation against the actor/producer of the film for showing him in a bad light in his movie, it has ended with Ratnakar Shetty, chief administrative officer, BCCI, commenting that SRK is using cricket to promote his movie.
This post the incident when SRK was spotted making an appearance in Jaipur on November 18 for the fifth one-day between India and Pakistan with son Aryan and co-star of OSO Deepika Padukone.
While he’s busy clearing this news, we wonder if SRK really needs such platforms to promote his movie? So, how far is it correct to use cricket as a medium for it. Here’s what celebs have to say…
It’s other way round:
Director Sajid Khan trashes the BCCI comment right away. “Oh! c’mn Shah Rukh is too big a star to use a game like cricket as a platform to promote his movie.
Om Shanti Om has already made history by getting such a huge opening at the box-office. It is stupid of BCCI to even say something like this. I feel it’s the other way round. The BCCI is using Shah Rukh to promote cricket as they invite him in all the matches that India play,” states Sajid.
Routine thing:
But actor and cricket show host Mandira Bedi insists that King Khan is going to these matches to promote his movie only.
“This is not the first occasion that a film is being promoted using cricket as a platform. There have been several other instances when filmstars have gone to watch cricket matches and have used the occasion to promote their films as well. I feel Shah Rukh has a lot of contacts and he is using them to the fullest to promote his movie,” avers Mandira.
Controversy’s promotion:
Promotion or no promotion, actor Govinda seems to be okay with both. “The producer of a film is concerned about making money and has all the rights to promote his movie the way he wants it. As far as Shah Rukh is concerned, being a big star that he is, he doesn’t actually need other platforms for film promotion. But then he is also the producer of the movie, it becomes his responsibility to promote the movie well. And well, controversies are also a part of promotion. So, I think Shah Rukh need not bother about them as they would only help him in further promotion of his movie.”
No Qualms:
The Secretary of BCCI, Niranjan Shah says, “I don’t know in what context did Ratnakar Shetty make a comment on stars using cricket as a platform to promote their films. As far as the Board is concerned, we have absolutely no objections to Shah Rukh Khan or any other film personality for that matter coming to watch India play in an international match as long as they are not promoting their films.”
