Some shanti for Manoj
He has learnt to forgive and forget.
And move on. Though hurt by the way he was portrayed “and hit below the belt,” in the film Om Shanti Om by Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, veteran actor Manoj Kumar prefers to “see Ram in everyone and ignore the Ravana.”
What also helped matters were the phone calls made by SRK and Farah to Kumar. “Shah Rukh did call me up and said he’d come over and apologise. Even if he couldn’t make it, it’s okay, after all, this is not the Kashmir problem.”
Farah also spoke to him saying she’d like to touch his feet and apologise for this portrayal. “But I told her categorically that in our tradition, daughters don’t touch their father’s feet. Since her father was a good friend of mine, she’s like my daughter too,” he asserts.
The actor does confess to holding a press conference -- his first in his 50 years in the film industry. “I saw activists holding a protest outside Shah Rukh’s house and appealed to the people not to indulge in any sort of violence. I don’t want any public property like cinema halls to be destroyed. Money should not be wasted, I believe in peace and matters should be resolved amicably,” he adds.
