The Deeper Meaning of Dard-E-Disco
His rhyming scheme in the song featuring Shah Rukh Khan has also taken many aback. The lyrics go like this - 'Dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco....Phirta hoon main New York, Paris, LA, San Francisco...'
Akhtar has a good laugh and says: 'You must understand every song in a film has to go with the given situation and character. The dumbing-down, as you call it, in 'Dard-e-disco' comes from the fact that the guy who sings it is a bit of silly goose ... not exactly intellectually equipped to sprout poetry!'
The lyricist adds: 'In the film-within-a-film in 'Om Shanti Om', it's shown that the hero (played by Shah Rukh) insists that an absurd song be composed for him to sing and dance on stage. While writing lines I had to constantly keep reminding myself that the song wasn't for Shah Rukh but the character that the star plays in a film within the film.
'We had to constantly keep checking my poetry to make sure it didn't sound intelligent. Every time I'd come up with a poetic image I'd be shouted down.'
We have had instances of lyricists trying to sound more poetic than they are capable of being. This is one of those rare occasions when a poet actually had to scale down his skills to accommodate the character's intellect.

Shah Rukh is the winner
These days everyone is getting into blogging. After Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgan, it’s now Shah Rukh’s turn.
Apparently, the actor is going all out to promote his next film Om Shanti Om, to the extent that we hear he’s convinced the entire cast and crew to blog on the film’s official site.
Of course, we all know whose blog will be the biggest hit. No prizes for guessing the answer to that one!

Farah Khan on the real reason behind SRK's six-pack
Rajeev Masand: The thing about your first film, and also about what we have seen of Om Shanti Om, is this sense of humour of yours which either people love it, or they just don’t understand it. That’s pretty much how Main Hoon Na was received in the beginning.
Farah Khan: Yes in the beginning. But on the whole a lot of people got it because it was a huge, huge commercial success. There are people without any sense of humour in life and they really like boring, dull, arty films. I would advise them then not to come see Om Shanti Om because it’s just too much fun, it’s too entertaining, it’s got a great story and great songs.
You are just going to have a time of your life. So if that scares you, then you should just watch some Polish art film.
Rajeev Masand: Shah Rukh Khan and you share this mad sense of humour. Do you?
Farah Khan: Yes. I guess the reason Shah Rukh and I have been friends for so long is because we do have a common sense of humour which can get rather black at some times. I am not allowed to use that word.
We most of the time make fun of ourselves in our own films which I think is a great thing. People say they have a great sense of humour. But whenever the joke is on them, nobody really laughs. In that sense we are quite mad and the madness shows in our movies.
Rajeev Masand: You are possibly the only female director in this industry who is making such big films and delivering such successes. Main Hoon Na was a mammoth success. And Om Shanti Om is a big film. What is it that you have and the others don’t?
Farah Khan: I think I have a sense of commercial cinema which may be the others tend to make niche films. But I don’t say that just because they are women directors. There are a lot of men who make niche films. And a lot of men directors whose movies don’t run. So in that sense the gender bias may not be right.
But because I am exception to the rule, and my movies don’t talk about one sensitive issue, which only two per cent of the population can identify with. I think from A, B, C, D to overseas centre, I’m sure people are going to like Om Shanti Om as they loved Main Hoon Na.
Also I am not typical ‘girlie girl’ as one would say. I don’t giggle, whimper or simper. I am outspoken, forthright and frank. They may not be the qualities girls have in India. But they should.
Rajeev Masand: You are not ever compared to Tanuja Chandra, Deepa Mehta, Meghna Gulzar. You are compared to Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Farah Khan: You are not allowed to take that name Rajeev.
Rajeev Masand: Are you happy to be in the boys club?
Farah Khan: I don’t think the boys really want me in their club. They get quite insecure. The boys at times can be patronising. A girls club is far more fun. I really don’t want to be in a boys club.
But if you’re saying I am successful director, and I get a lot of money to make films, the big stars would want to work in my film, and a lot of people would want to go and see my films, I think that’s what excites me. Being in a boys club would be rather boring.
Rajeev Masand: This film on level is an inside look at Bollywood. It is a tribute to the 70ws. But it is also a tribute to Karz. A film within a film.
Farah Khan: Definitely an inside look on Bollywood. But I have tried not to keep too many inside jokes. So that the entire audience gets it. There is a lot of humour about Bollywood because for me the film industry is a rather mad, eccentric and a happy place to be in. So it shows in the movie I have made. But Karz is definitely one of my favourite films. I think it’s Subhash Ghai’s best film.
I don’t know if he will agree because it wasn’t one of his biggest hits. But it was far ahead of its time. and Rishi Kapoor was my all-time favourite. And I am so honoured that Rishi Kapoor and Subhash Ghai are playing themselves in my film. In that sense it is a tribute. But it has nothing to do with Karz. May be the genre could be the same. But the storyline is completely different.
Rajeev Masand: Of course in your style.
Farah Khan: My style is completely different. It is a little madder and because the backdrop is Bollywood, you get to do so many things. 1970s Bollywood was completely mad. And we have done a take off in 2007. And Shah Rukh plays a huge star, which is why I made him work out and get a six-pack.
Today’s generation of actors may not be able to act. But they have to have a six-pack. We are quite self-mocking ourselves in a light and sweet manner. It’s not seedy, or sordid. And we are not looking down. This is a mad place to be in and really the best place to be in.

Arjun Rampal is the villain in Om Shanti Om
Are you playing a negative role in Om Shanti Om?
Yes, I’m playing a negative character whose name is Mukesh Mehra who happens to be a film producer.
What was it about the role that made you take it up immediately?
If I have to answer as to why I took up this role, it was because as an actor it is important that you crave to play different roles as far as possible. And when you get such a good opportunity to play someone so different and when you have someone like Farah Khan directing the film, I think it becomes very difficult to let go of such a golden opportunity. Also there was no resemblance of Arjun Rampal at all in Mukesh Mehra. I don’t have any of his qualities. I also got to play someone who begins at the age of 25 years in the film and ends up at 65. So it was a different look that I got to play with and different expressions too.
Since you played the role of a producer were you in any way inspired from anyone in the industry?
I don’t think any of the producers from Bollywood are like Mukesh Mehra. The fact is that Om Shanti Om is a larger than life film, with larger than life characters too. It is an exaggeration of lots of things and all these characters are make believe and not from real life. So I don’t know anyone like Mukesh Mehra.
Om Shanti Om is a period film that tracks incidents form the 70’s until 2007. So how difficult was it to make that transition in terms of looks?
Oh yes. To show the 70’s was relatively easy because I already have long hair. I just had to work on the sideburns and the costumes of that time period. But I had to struggle to get the look of 2007. And as I had to look my character who was 65 by then, I had to sit through four to five hours of make-up everyday of the shoot. So my day used to start at five in the morning because I had to be ready on the sets by nine. I had to use a lot of make-up and look old. But I need to mention that the make-up artists did a wonderful job.
Arjun, what do you think of Shah Rukh’s six pack abs?
Well I think it’s great. It is remarkable that he has achieved what he has at his age with his body. I think he was very determined to get those six packs and he has done it. It’s good to see him on the posters isn’t it?
And what do you have to say about newcomer Deepika Padukone and Shreyas Talpade?
I think Deepika has done a fantastic job. Though she had the responsibility of playing the central character in the movie, she came out really good and she has great potential. Shreyas and me don’t have that many scenes in the film where we are in the same frame. But from what I have observed of him and his earlier work in films, I think he has a very good future lying ahead of him.
So who do you think looks better, SRK prior to his six packs or SRK as of today?
I am sure Shah Rukh finds himself better like this. And I like him this way because anyone has to put in a lot of effort to work towards fitness and has to put in a lot of time for it as well. Hence anybody who says he does not want a good body or he does not want to look fit is lying.

The Making of Om Shanti Om
The latest piece of information to come in is that a book has been written on the making of the film. Of course, it is titled "The Making of Om Shanti Om." Also, if sources are to be believed, the book would be arriving in foreign languages as well.
"Yes, Farah (Khan) and Shahrukh Khan have trusted me to be working on this book. This book is a celebration of the movies," confirms Mushtaq Sheikh, the designated author for the book.
Talking about the contribution made by Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan during the making of the book, he says fondly, "Full credit to both of them as they have allowed it to be my baby. That way I must tell you Farah shows very good faith. Inshallah, I will deliver something that does everyone proud."
But why a book?
"There are so many questions people ask about movies and how they are made. With this book, I am trying my level best to give the reader a chance to actually be a part of the movie making process. The behind the scenes, the highs, the lows, the even lower lows, the joy, the pain, the anguish, the celebration of Hindi movies - 'The Making of Om Shanti Om will have it all", reasons Mushtaq Sheikh.
On questioned about the format in which the book would be releasing, Sheikh laughs, "It's going to be different. It's not a coffee table book but then it’s not like a small paper back copy either. It's just different! Just like the old adage goes - the taste of the format is in buying the copy and finding what I designed for you (laughs again)!"
About Mushtaq Sheikh
A journalist-scriptwriter, Mushtaq Sheikh has the distinction of written three books on Shah Rukh and/or his projects - 'The Making of Asoka', 'Devdas - The Indian Hamlet' and his most recent 'SRK - Still Reading Khan'.
'The Making of Asoka' had marked the beginning of a trend where all kind of communication was made around the making of a film. It was also for the first time in the history of Indian cinema that a movie as well as a book on its making was released simultaneously.
On the other hand 'Devdas - The Indian Hamlet' was an attempt to discuss the origins of Devdas through looking at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's cinematic vision as well as reflecting back at the classic masterpiece by Sarat Chandra. The making of the book involved extensive research and brainstorming sessions with cast and crew of the film as well as keen followers of Indian cinema.
His third book 'SRK - Still Reading Khan' promised to cover everything about the actor who is fast gaining a legendary status. As qouted by Sheikh, "Shah Rukh Khan, the actor means a world to the cine-goers who have sworn undying love for him for more than a decade. It’s his name, his persona, his magic, his sensitive side and his thick hide, which he wears as a survivor. His self-depreciating humor and his undeterred belief in himself and his journey from nowhere, into the hearts of every Indian is the fodder for the book."

King Khan requests songs on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa
On Saturday, the 29th, it is the three mega-finalists performing.
The mentors Vishal and Shekhar are the music composers of this film. Deepika makes sure to have fun and rocks the stage with gusto while Shreyas maintains his usual charming self.
The contestants on Saturday sing two songs each. The first song is from the film “Om Shanti Om”, while Aneek sings a Sonu Nigam number from this film “Main Agar Kahun”.
The second song sung by the contestants is on the request by King Khan – Shahrukh himself who could not attend the show as he was unavailable. Raja does full justice to the song “Chal Chhaiya Chhaiya” while Aneek sings “Satrangi Re” from the film Dil Se.
All the contestants give brilliant performances and get full marks on the opponent Guru's Gurugraph.
Farah Khan was also very impressed by one of the contestant’s performasnce so much so that she promises him a break in her next venture. At the end of the show, it’s time to decide the “Titan of the day” and with everyone giving such brilliant mind-blowing performances, they were unable to take a decision. On the request of the contestants, the gift was given to Deepika Padukone instead.
Who is the lucky one who bags the promise from Farah Khan?
Don’t forget to tune in to Zee TV at 10pm both on Saturday 29th.

Om Shanti Om's Music Scintilates!
After the spectacular success of Chak De, King Khan stars with the stunning Deepika Padukone, in the year’s most awaited big banner release.
The young dynamic duo of Vishal and Shekhar has proved their mettle with this album, which is sure to put their detractors on the defensive.
The conventional sounds, coupled with the unconventional with a smooth grace, the music of Om Shanti Om , is variety personified.
Dard-e-Disco: This scorching number has Sukhwinder Singh crooning the lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. The track has recently hit the screens and is making waves owing to the new chiselled avatar of Shahrukh Khan.
The song per se, as far as the lyrics go, is average since it strikes you as nonsensical at times. The track redeems itself with the power-packed vocals and a foot-tapping score.
Though the song is an instant chartbuster, it will not qualify as a discerning music-lover’s delight. Visually speaking, watching King Khan emerging out, with water streaming down his perfect, much talked about six-pack abs leaves you gasping for more.
One can spend hours waxing eloquent about this visual treat, which comes to you courtesy Farah Khan.
Ajab Si: The clincher for the album grows on you. It has the immensely talented Kay Kay lending his golden voice to this composition, which can be best described as unconventional.
The song is a perfect amalgamation of mellifluous sounds, which render it a sheer ethereal flavour. It’s an irresistible piece of melody that lingers on long after one has heard it.
Dastaan-e-Om Shanti Om: A high voltage track that is set in the mode of dramatic narration has Shaan lending his vocals for it.
The track sounds like a rehashed version of the song Ek Haseena Thi from the classic Rishi Kapoor-starrer Karz. The similarity is too obvious to miss. The composition can be best described as average and purely situational. The orchestration and the rising crescendo of music serve the purpose for the song’s narrative style.
Dhoom Taana: It’s a number that takes you on a trip down the memory lane into the effervescent era of 70’s and early 80’s. Shreya Ghosal and Abhijit successfully lend the track a nostalgic touch, which is the USP of the composition. Dhol and jhankaar beats come together to create this aesthetically appealing score, which will be a praiseworthy chartbuster.
Deewangi Deewangi: The much-awaited song which reportedly boasts of an ensemble cast and an array of stars has Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Rahul Saxena coming together to create an instant chartbuster. The track has its melody quotient in place and not even once succumbs to a dull moment. The festive spirit of the number is heady and raises expectations for an apt visual representation.
Main Agar Kahoon: It’s a serene and sweet romantic number, which stands apart from the overriding festive feel of the album. The track is reminiscent of old romantic songs sung by the inimitable Rafi. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal do justice to the composition, which is mellow and strikes a chord within you. The rendition sadly lacks the punch, which might result in it being categorized by some as painfully limp.
Jag Soona Soona Lage: An immensely talented Raahat Fateh Ali Khan croons this number, which is right up his alley. Richa Sharma lends the sufiyana style score, her powerful voice and sets the theme of the song with an alaap in the beginning. Pain of separation forms the backdrop for the novel track.
The album includes various remixes to cater to niche listeners. Dard-e-Disco’s remix version along with Dastaan - The Dark Side Mix and a medley mix of Om Shanti Om will appease those who hanker after party music.
The melodic theme music completes the collage of musical genres which best describes the collection. Vishal and Shekhar surprise you with their creativity which spells sure shot success of Om Shanti Om’s music.

Tumko Paya Hai To Jaise Khoya Hoon
Kehna Chahoon Bhi To Tumse Kya Kahon
Tumko Paya Hai To Jaise Khoya Hoon
Kehna Chahoon Bhi To Tumse Kya Kahon
Kisi Zabaon Mein Bhi Woh Labaz Hi Nahi
Ki Jeene Mein Tum Ho Kya Tumhein Mein Bata Sakun
Main Aagar Kahoon Tumsa Haseen
Kaynaat Mein Nai Hai Kahin
Tareef Yeh Bhi To Sach Hai Kuch Bhi Nahi
Tumko Paya Hai To Jaise Khoya Hoon..
Shokhiyon Mein Dooobi Yeh Aadayein
Chehre Se Jhalki Hui Hain
Zulf Ki Ghani Ghani Ghatayein
Shaan Se Dhalki Hui Hain
Lehrata Aachal Hai Jaise Badal
Bhaahon Mein Bhari Hai Jaise Chandani
Roop Ki Chandani
Main Agar Kahoon Yeh Dilkashi
Hai Nahi Kahin Na Hogi Kabhi
Tareef Yeh Bhi To Sach Hai Kuch Bhi Nahi
Tumko Paya Hai To Jaise Khoya Hoon..
Tum Hue Meherbaan
To Hai Yeh Dastan
Hoo Tum Hue Meherbaan
To Hai Yeh Dastan
Abb Tumhara Mera Ek Hai Karwaan

Om Shanti Om's Best Kept Secrets Revealed
Do you know the secret behind Shah Rukh’s perfect ‘six- pack abs’- well it is sheer hard work! While he was shooting for the song Dard-E- Disco, he had a makeshift gym arranged on the set and would work out in between shots! Now that is what we call - Dedication!
Inspite of a stunt double being on the sets, Shah Rukh insisted on doing his stunts himself. Be it flying in the air, or jumping through fire! All for the love of ‘Om Shanti Om’!
A very heart warming incident happened on the sets, when ‘Mithun Da’ was shooting for a song. As soon as he entered the sets-the entire crew started whistling and clapping. Infact, the craze was so much that he was almost mobbed. Everyone wanted to get a picture clicked with him- And guess who was clicking some of those pictures –King Khan himself! Sooo sweet!
Guess who will be spotted after a hiatus of 4 years-in in this film ?! Well, it is none other than the stunning Karisma Kapoor! She will be shaking a leg with Shah Rukh Khan. In fact she was quite nervous to face the camera after such a long gap. But as usual, she gave a perfect shot- as the crew cheered her on.
There are many ways in which Farah Khan has made the making of ‘Om Shanti Om’ a very special experience for her entire cast and crew. One of them was- when she gifted personalized- T-Shirts to everyone from the spot boys to the Stars of the film. And guess what some of the T-Shirts say, “ You have made it big- Om Shanti Om.” So if you see someone wearing a black and gold T-Shirt like that, you know where it’s from!
In the first schedule of the film- which lasted for over a month, a huge set was put up on Helipad. The Executive producer of the film, Sanjeev Chawla, built a five star lounge -for the entire cast and crew to chill out after a hard day’s work . Now that’s what we call Generous!
Deepika Padukone was recommended by her director Farah Khan, to watch all the super hit films from the 70’s - to help her prepare for her role as a film star of that period. Guess what happens when Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt - remove their jackets, stand on the bar and dance together !! Whew! Fireworks!!!
That’s exactly what happened when the four hunks were shooting for a dance number in Om Shanti Om! The crowd was going simply berserk! Just the sight of those guys dancing together sent the entire crew , and the crowd in a frenzy!!! The stars were having a ball themselves dancing on the peppy number!! Now this is what we call a hot and happening shoot!!!
Did you know Om Shanti Om will be the first of its kind in which almost the entire crew will be seen playing bits of roles in the film. Including Farah Khan, who supposedly has a very funny sequence with Shah Rukh. Well the list is endless , from the DOP, to the entire Direction team , to the Executive Producer, to the Hair dressers, to the Art director and hold your breadth Spot Boys as well…they are all there!! Can just about imagine the fun on the sets!

Arjun Rampal turns mean, vicious for OM SHANTI OM!
Starting with Shah Rukh Khan as ‘Om Prakash / Om Kapoor’, Deepika Padukone as ‘Shanti / Sandy’ and Shreyas as SRK’s side kick ‘Master’, we know about all the significant stars of the film. Everyone? But didn’t we forget an important cast member? Yes, we did miss out on Arjun Rampal and to make amends, we disclose one of OM SHANTI OM’s most well guarded secrets!
Arjun Rampal plays ‘Mukesh Mehra’ and it is the coldest and meanest character essayed by him. To add to the troubles of ‘Om’ and ‘Shanti’, ‘Mukesh’ is also quite eccentric, tricky and vicious.

Music Comparison : Om Shanti Om and Saawariya
Plus Point :-
This is what you call as the collective power of numero uno superstar, top banner, a successful director and last but definitely not the least, a composer duo which does selective but quality work. All of this ensures that ‘Om Shanti Om’ reaches the top of the charts within a week of it’s release.
Minus Point :-
A section of audience in not too pleased with ‘Dard-E-Disco’ and SRK’s new look
Saawariya Music
Plus Point :-
The title song is already the most hummed around in the weekend gone by and rendition by new find Shail Hada has only come for appreciation by one and all. Pure and gentle, Monty Sharma’s soundtrack of ‘Saawariya’ is high quality. No wonder the music has made a smashing debut in the charts.
Minus Point :-
In totality, music of ‘Saawaiya’ doesn’t cater to all segments of audiences. Those looking for sheer quality don’t have to look elsewhere but initial reactions indicate lack of mass appeal for a man on the street.

Pakistan actor Javed Sheikh in Om Shanti Om
Javed Sheikh, who was recently seen in APNE and NAMASTE LONDON this year, would be making an appearance in OM SHANTI OM. And no, it won’t be just a blink-and-you-would-miss special/guest appearance. Instead it is for a well defined role of a character named Rajesh Kapoor in the film.
Early next year, Javed Sheikh would be seen in another film coming from the banner of Shahrukh Khan which is titled MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSLAVES. A launch pad of newcomer Nikhil Dwivedi, the film features Javed as a cop named Inspector Khan.

Rivalry between Saawariya and Om Shanti Om on TV
Says Voice of India producer-director Gajendra Singh, “Having Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the two Saawariya debutants on our show was such a delight. Bhansali is a very musical person, and handpicked all the songs from the great Raj Kapoor epics. When one of the contestants superbly sang the title song from Satyam Shivam Sundaram, he spontaneously came forward to greet him. It was a very emotional evening for us. This was also the first time Ranbir and Sonam recorded for TV show, and they were so confident.”

Meanwhile, the Om Shanti Om special to be telecast simultaneously on Zee features Shreyas Talpade, Deepika Padukone and director Farah Khan. Shah Rukh Khan couldn’t appear on the show because he is contract-bound with Star. “But he sent a list of requests to be performed. Those will be featured in the second half of the show. During the first half, we’ll have the contestants singing Om Shanti Om tracks, since two of our judges (Vishal and Shekhar) are also the music directors of the film,” informs Payaol Patel of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

The Farah Bhansali Fight
When asked by Karan, what name Bhansali would give to Farah’s Om Shanti Om. Farah cheekily replied, ” Maa Shanti Maa“. This apparently had Sanjay Bhansali get angry. ‘Making fun of my 75-year-old mother is really not done. I’m proud to have my mother’s name as part of my name. No civilised human would want his or her parent ridiculed. Even if ‘reliable sources’ decide to make fun of my mother to make mileage they’d still have my mother’s blessings,’ Sanjay Bhansali said.
Sanjay Bhansali‘My mom has shown immense love for Farah and her family although over the years they’ve repeatedly made barbed comments about her in public. On ‘Koffee With Karan’, Farah was heard saying that if I made ‘Om Shanti Om’ it would be called ‘Ma Shanti Ma’.
‘Why bring my mother into this unnecessarily, specially since my mother has always shown so much love and affection for Farah? No matter how much the provocation, I’d never speak like this about anyone’s parents.’
When asked about the supposed competition Sanjay said: ‘I’m here to make a film and believe filmmaking to be an art form. Cinema is not a battlefield. We all work very hard on our films. And I’m sure my film is as dear to me as other people’s films are to them.
‘Let me say at the outset that we had announced our decision to release ‘Saawariya’ on Nov 9 a year ago at a press conference held by Sony Pictures. So we aren’t coming on anyone else’s release date. I’m sure ‘Om Shanti Om’ is a terrific film. And Shah Rukh Khan has a huge draw. In fact, he’s the biggest star of the country. We are very small compared with him. I wish his film all the best.’
‘Shah Rukh and I had come to a moral decision to keep this dignified and not to speak about each other’s film in print. I intend to stick to that decision even if other people on his behalf are eagerly breaking that moral code. There are ’sources’ close to the film making catty comments about me, making fun of me and even my mother to get attention.’
Such provocations won’t affect him and he is not going to retaliate, said Bhansali.
‘I’m not going to be provoked into talking about another person’s film or its cast. Me and my mother wish Shah Rukh and his film all the best from the bottom of our hearts.’

For Some Dreams...One Lifetime is Not Enough...
Shah Rukh Khan, who starred in Karan Arjun, another reincarnation film, is back in a similar role. It’s a new avatar for the actor himself, what with the talked-about six pack and all. And that’s not all, Satish Kaushik has bought the rights to remake Karz, the 1980 Rishi Kapoor blockbuster.
Says filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia, “Two of my all-time favourite Hindi films, Karz and Karan Arjun , are based on the reincarnation theme. And I am looking forward to OSO to see what Farah Khan does with the script.” Everyone is, no doubt, but will an abstract theme like reincarnation work in the age of the Internet and palm tops? “Every religion preaches Karma and past life influences. I think it’s a cool subject to explore,” says Apoorva.
Actor Vijay Raghavendra says, “You never know. A lot of subjects that are from another era have worked in recent times. Plus, there are many examples that force us to believe in miracles.” Actress Sharmila Mandre points to Madhumati, Nagin, Hamesha, Karan Arjun and Karz, saying, “It’s been a long time since someone thought of that subject, so if the film is convincing, it’ll be a success.”
But not every movie-goer agrees. And Priya Sudeep is one of those few who isn’t too thrilled about OSO’s storyline. “I was looking forward to OSO but was slightly put off when I heard it’s a reincarnation story. I think the theme has been overused in Bollywood. I personally don’t believe in rebirth, so even when I saw Karan Arjun I couldn’t relate to it,” she says. “Then again, there’s the SRK factor. People will love it as it is.”
Apoorva explains, “There is no set formula in Bollywood. People just want to be entertained. When we started making Shootout at Lokhandwala, people had all kinds of apprehensions, but it was a hit.”
“I would love to do a reincarnation role,” says Sharmila. “It’s like playing two characters (a double role of sorts), which is very good for an actor,” she says. “And if the story is told well, people will believe in it too. I don’t know about the Karz remake, considering what happened to RGV Ki Aag, but the promos of OSO look fresh and good. With SRK, Deepika and a whole list of actors, I think the theme will just be that — an anchor,” says Vijay.
Resarch on rebirth
“There is a reference to past lives and reincarnation in every religion. While 60 per cent people don’t believe in God, all of them believe in the existence of past lives. Modern lifestyles lead people to live like there’s no
tomorrow, leave alone
another lifetime. But when they encounter serious
problems like trauma and chronic diseases, and all else fails, they think about past life influence. “Extensive research has been done on past life and it’s connection with our present. We practise past life regression therapies in which we hypnotise the patients and take them back to their previous lives to find the root of their problems. If there is enough evidence to show if the past life problem is solved, the present life will also get back on track.
“It’s just that people are not aware that
parapsychology was termed as a science in 1969. They fall for quacks and their tricks. But hopefully that will change soon.”

Heil Shah Rukh! say SRK's German Fans
Shanti Om website (omshantiomfilm.com) has gotten at least two lakh hits and posts from Germany, Poland, France, Austria and Russia. They all want the film to be released there, which is shocking!”
Khan adds that these SRK fans come from all over Europe to attend the Berlin film festival and hence want OSO to be shown there. “I have asked our distributors, Eros International, to release the film in Russia and thus open up a new market for us there,” says Farah, elated.
Euphoric feeling
However, as much as she’s delighted with the response and euphoria towards her film, Farah says she can’t show OSO at the Berlinale. “The festival is scheduled to take place in February. It’ll be too late to release it there,” she says.
Shah Rukh Khan, who is also aware of the petition, adds, “OSO will release in Germany, along with the rest of the world, on November 9.”
Farah adds that Shah Rukh has a huge fan following in Germany. “Main Hoon Naa did very well there after we dubbed it in German. His fans keep asking him to come there as they’re dying to meet him, and now they’re desperately looking forward to OSO. They have a lot of fun watching our films, and all the songs, dances and emotions that go with it,” she says.
The German love for SRK doesn’t end there. “The German magazine Rapid Eye is doing a book on the making of Om Shanti Om. They came here to cover the shoot and even sent their photographers. Mushtaq Sheikh is writing the book on OSO in India, while Rapid Eye will be in German,” says Farah.

Mrs Khan Steps Out in Style
The scene requires Gauri to walk a red carpet for a song at the end of the movie as the credits come on. Typical of Farah, the technicians and crew members of the movie take a bow too in this number. Farah had tried earlier in vain to convince the elusive Mrs Khan to make a guest appearance in her first movie, Main Hoon Na . “But she ditched me. I think, Shah Rukh convinced her to do it this time,” said Farah.
Gauri is said to get bored very easily of the takes and several retakes while shooting.
“She has no patience, that’s why we don’t try to get her in front of the camera,” explained Farah. “However, for this shot, she just had to step out of a car and walk the red carpet waving to the crowd like a star.” According to the director, Gauri did not require to put in much effort for this scene. “She is very natural before the camera and is poised and stylish even otherwise,” said Farah. “Next time, I’ll try and get her to do an entire song!”
That Gauri is a style diva in Bollywood, is known. Men are also reported to find her hot! And she has constantly attracted the attention of ad filmmakers and movie producers who have all tried unsuccessfully to lure her onto the screen. Mira Nair was one of them.
Shah Rukh is among those who admits to Gauri being stylish and with a sense of fashion that is her very own. “Style is inherent. And Gauri has that,” he said. The Bollywood badshah and his begum have often been compared to British footballer David Beckham and his style icon wife Victoria. But Shah Rukh finds that amusing. “I thought we were the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie of Bollywood,” he said smiling.

"Digital is going to be big in India," says Shah Rukh Khan
Digital prints require projectors that cost Rs 40 lakh plus transmission equipment to beam the film. But the economics works in its favour. Each physical print costs Rs 70,000 whereas the new technology allows a few master prints to be used to transmit the film across the country (see box). So, had Sajid Nadiadwala released 350 prints of Heyy Babby in celluloid, it would have cost him Rs 2.5 crore. But, by using digital technology, he managed to cut down costs by 80%.
Distributors and exhibitors gain by being able to screen the film in smaller centres in the initial weeks of its release. “There is potential for increasing box-office revenue by 100%. Piracy, which takes away 40% of the revenue, can be curbed better now,'' a cinema manager from Amravati said. New films hitting small towns like Amravati now coincides with their worldwide launch; places like Amravati are used to seeing new movies a week or two after they hit the metros and this allows pirated prints to reach these towns earlier.
Om Shanti Om and Saawariya are among the immediate releases whose makers are riding piggyback on digitalisation to broadbase their release.
“Digital is going to be big in India,'' actor Shah Rukh Khan said. Three hundred and fifty of Om Shanti Om's 850 prints are being released digitally; the plan is to bombard the smaller centres and capitalise on the hype in the first few days of its release.

'Shah Rukh gives 200 percent in every shot'
Patcy N caught up with the actor for more on the film and Shah Rukh Khan.
How was working with Shah Rukh Khan?
Shah Rukh is an amazing human being. To give a newcomer like me so much scope in the film is unheard of. He would allow me to improvise.
People would ask me if I felt insecure working with Shah Rukh Khan in his home production with him playing the lead. But I did not feel any insecurity, as I was aware it was Shah Rukh's film and I knew what I was doing in the film.
Eventually, I ended up doing more that what I was offered during the narration. And it is all thanks to Farah and Shah Rukh. Somewhere, they felt that if I am performing, they should better the shot or scene.
It was never that if I got more lines, my screen presence would increase and I would steal the show.
How did your role get expanded in the movie?
I have this habit of improvising. So does Shah Rukh.I am not supposed to talk much about my role except that I am playing one of the five main characters. Working with King Khan was really superb. He and I would improvise so much on the sets that Farah actually shouted at us for changing her script.
Shah Rukh doesn’t mind giving his own lines to others, to improve the scene. He would tell me about things in 1970s, what they would do in college or theatre days. And then we would add that to our scene. In this process, you say an extra line or your lines may go to the other actor. But if you have acted in theatre, you don't think about it. You don't feel insecure. In the end, you are thinking about the film.
Did Shah Rukh give you any tips on how to be in this industry?
Never. He is not the preachy type. But yes, he would share his experiences, and from that, we can gather so many things. What I learnt from Shah Rukh was that you need not put on a mask to be in the industry. Just be what you are. If you are good in your work and a good human being, then the sky is the limit. That's why he does he gives 200 percent in every shot. Even after so many years, he still has that passion.
Go on.
He would help me in certain sequences because he's more experienced. He understands the pulse of the audience. In certain scenes, he would tell me that isme agar hum thoda aur energy dalengey thoda aur achcha hoga. He would tell me to do the same shot in two ways: one in my style and the other, in his. Then, we would compare them. Sometimes, his way would be better. That understanding of Shah Rukh is superb. He knows exactly what would look good. That's why he is a superstar today.
At any point did you advise Shah Rukh?
No. But I would tell him about certain reactions from my college and theatre days, and ask him to add it. Sometimes, he would ask me how we could better the scene if it was looking flat.
How was it working with Farah Khan?
I had heard that Farah was a hard taskmaster, bahut chichid karti hai, gussa karti hai, sambhal ke rehna etc etc. But I think it's all bullshit. People need to work with Farah to know how she is. She is very sweet and warm. If she gets angry, there's a reason for it.
She doesn't keep anything in her heart. She'll tell you what she feels to your face. She would not scold Deepika and me, just because we were new. She would speak to Shah Rukh in the same manner as well. I never saw any bias towards anyone.
Farah has a great understanding of the medium. She knew what she was making. She knew she was making a Bollywood masala movie, and how she should project the cast.

The Story behind SRK's Perfect Bod
“I got so inspired. I treated Shah Rukh just like Ramu treats his heroines like when they are get out of the sea or when the focus is on the rear,” Farah says talking about Shah Rukh's abs in the song Dard-e-disco.
And of course, there's a story behind SRK’s perfect bod.
“I always wanted that before I retire from choreography I should at least do one song that I can have Shah Rukh as an item boy. And we had discussed during Main Hoon Na but then he had a back operation and could not work out. But he promised me if I will ever remove my shirt, it will be for you,” says Farah.
And so the King Khan kept his promise. Shah Rukh may be content with his new image, but when he needs a reality check he goes to none other than his son Aryan.
“My son says ‘now you are not fat’. He thinks I am just about ok and physically fit. But he thinks I can still improve. So, I will keep trying,” SRK says modestly.
He even took three months break to work out for the song and his co-star Deepika Padukone, who is making her debut in the film, spills the beans about his diet.
“When all of us were shooting, we would have lunch and dinner together. We would have biryani, chocolate and ice cream, he would be eating his diet food. So, he has really worked hard,” says Deepika.
The film releases on November 9 and will clash with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya.
The abs will help the film grab more eyeballs.

Cool Retro Music in Om Shanti Om : Review
A full-blown musical set within the film industry and involving a reincarnation theme, Om Shanti Om, with its clever title and chromatic glory promises to be quite the cracker this Diwali.
While Shah Rukh Khan leads the brat pack, Arjun Rampal and Shreyas Talpade also star in this November 9 release (Yup, same day as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's grand opus Saawariya), which introduces model-turned-actress, Deepika Padukone on the big screen.
The bright, young duo of Vishal-Shekhar whip up an eclectic soundtrack against Javed Akhtar's imaginative penmanship, which is both nifty and retro. It might not be path breaking stuff but it's still really good. Instead of relying on old tunes and stretching their lingering memory, the pair formulates fresh sounds that are inspiring and lilting.
The album begins with the melting Ajab Si in KK's silvery voice about an awe-struck, starry-eyed romantic oozing poetry, penned impressively by Vishal, for his stunning lady love. The sheer velvety quality of its notes and smooth arrangement is akin to the melodious magic of Jhankaar Beats' Suno Na.
On screen, SRK shows off his brilliantly-sculpted six pack and shirtless avatar, while behind the scenes Sukhwinder Singh brings the studio down with his red-hot rendition of Dard-e-Disco. Despite its snazzy middle eastern influences, Vishal-Shekhar maintain a moderate percussion, leaving ample breathing space for the singer to spread his vocal wings. DJ Aqueel's zingy remix of Disco is high on zing and bound to enjoy a long run at clubs and discotheques.
The opening zig-zag strain tarrying all through the track is super catchy and adds bounce and attitude to the bubbly Deewangi Deewangi. The song pays a tribute to Naseeb's John Jaani Janardan what with practically half of Bollywood, from Dharmendra to Karisma Kapoor, making a special appearance.
That it has a tang 'rainbow' remix, goes without saying. Like the name suggests, the techno-washed version is loaded with colourful beats and infectious verve. Ditto for Om Shanti Om medley mix, which features bits and pieces from the entire album.
Main Agar Kahoon is a full-fledged piano number laced in fairy-tale romance, which works as the central theme of Om Shanti Om. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal are appropriately sweetness-personified in this music-box track.
Taking a break from the vibrant mood of the album so far, Jag Soona Soona Laga charges on the unprepared listener's senses with its heartbreaking starkness and haunting melody. Richa Sharma's Punjabi delivery coupled with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's ardent cry ensures Jag Soona will find a place in a compilation of Javed Akhtar's sad ditties.
The flamboyant memories of Laxmikant-Pyarelal and R D Burman's 1970s are brought back in Dhoom Taana variating from daflis and drums to rock 'n' roll. While watching Shah Rukh and Deepika mock Teesri Manzil, Humjoli or Himmatwala, sounds like fun on celluloid, this one's not so much of a Dhoom on stereo.
Daastan-e-Om Shanti Om with its dramatic effusion and sizzling orchestra (The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra) recounts a reborn man's bitter saga of love and betrayal. Heavily influenced by Karz's immortal Ek Haseena Thi, sans the iconic guitar play though, in narrative and format, Dastaan is rocking in its own right.
Though Shaan's rendering might not be 'tough guy' stuff, he conveys the angst of his protagonist only too well. Sadly, the Dark Side mix by Zoheb, Nikhil Chinapa and DJ Naweb with all it's electronic tinkering is not a patch on the theatrical original.
Finally, Om Shanti Om is an out and out musical that captivates with its roaring polyphony and unabashed drama.

Om Shanti Om is not a spoof on Hindi cinema of the 70s : Shah Rukh Khan
'The film is about reincarnation. The Om of 70s is Om Prakash Makhija, a struggling actor trying to make it big while the Om of 2007 is Om Kapoor, a superstar who is not talented,'' he said.
On his expectations from the film, he said, ''you cannot satisfy all people at all times. I am releasing the movie on Diwali. The film is about celebration of life and happiness. Besides, there is lot of comedy and drama. Director Farah Khan has got a good ear for music unlike me. There is variety in the music of this film.''
Speaking about the other Bollywood biggie Saawariya which releases on the same day as 'Om Shanti Om', the King Khan said 'Saawariya' was a huge movie as compared to his own.
''Mine is a secondary film compared to ‘Saawariya’. It could have been good for business if the release dates had not clashed. But, there is no competition. There are enough people to see both films,'' he said.
'' Sanjay Leela Bhansali has given me Devdaas which I consider as a highlight of my career. Besides, Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan who are in ‘Saawariya’, I have lot of love for debutants Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor who respect me tremendously. Hence, I pray for both the movies. But, after all ‘Om Shanti Om’ is my child,'' he added.
''I am grateful to everybody including Dharmendra , Shabana Azmi , Mithun Chakraborty and all other friends from the industry who agreed to be part of the film.''
SRK said he went on a diet control for four months and also worked out. ''I am feeling good and healthy. Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan were very co-operative. Infact, I showed them my pictures before commencing shooting. They said I was good and needed to improve further.''
He spoke highly of his debutant co-star Deepika Padukone . ''We feel a huge responsibility towards her. She has all the makings of a good star-actress,'' SRK added.

The Music of Om Shanti Om is all set to conquer charts and stay there
Director : Farah Khan
Music : Vishal & Shekhar
Lyrics : Javed Akhtar , Kumar (Punjabi) and Vishal
Vocals :Abhijit, Caralisa, K.K, Marianne, Nisha, Rahul Saxena, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sukhwinder Singh and Udit Narayan
Label : T-Series
Just few years back, we reviewed the audio album of ‘Main Hoon Na’, that had the same team of Shah Rukh Khan, Farah Khan and Javed Akhtar. But are we missing someone here? Oh yes, the chart conquering composer of the 2004 album, Anu Malik is not associated with the 2007 album, ‘Om Shanti Om’. Given the fact that Anu is out of form and circulation, the decision of picking Vishal & Shekhar on their current form seems to be correct. How correct, we will know shortly.
Farah Khan’s 35-crore bonanza, ‘Om Shanti Om’, based mainly in the psychedelic 70s, kick starts with the absolutely mesmerizing, petal-soft, romantic track ‘Ajab Si’. Right from the first notes, the soft beats and caressing guitar strings set just the right pace for K. K. to take over. The lyrics by (no its not Javed Akhtar) by Vishal (what a pleasant surprise!) are simple and superb - “Aankhon mein teri, Ajab si ajab si adaayen hain, Dil ko bana de jo patang, Saansein ye teri who hawaayein hain.” The arrangements by Vishal & Shekhar and K.K.’s superb rendition gel perfectly.
Next up, we run into the ‘6-pack’ (SRK) song, ‘Dard-E-Disco’. The Arabic styled composition is more in the qawwali mold rather than in the disco alley! Once again, the lyrics (this time by Javed Akhtar) are the first thing that grab attention - “Woh haseena woh neelam pari, Kar gayee kaisi jadoogari, Neend in aankhon se cheen li hai, Dil mein bechainiyan hai bhari.” The lyrics couldn’t have been more perfect and Sukhwinder takes over, and is in top form! His voice modulation floats in perfect unison with the music and the lyrics, changing pace and pitch as per the mood and requirement. The background (Arabic style) vocals and crooning enhance the composition further. In a nutshell, ‘Dard-E-Disco’ takes us back to the early 70s, and we are reminded of countless Pran enacted qawwalis, with ‘Dard-E-Disco’ (in the lyrics) adding a touch of humour. As we have already mentioned at the start, the arrangements are more in the qawwali mold with slight touches of disco beats.
‘Dard-E-Disco (Remix)’, by DJ Aqeel has all the right ingredients needed for a good rehash and will serve its purpose of burning the dance floors of the pubs and the discos with its heightened pace. A nice effort.
Moving on, we reach ‘Dhoom Taana’ and the duff, anklet, woodwind and other traditional percussion instruments remind one of ‘Sargam’ days of melody and dance (Rishi Kapoor and Jaya Prada). The arrangements, lyrics and settings are based in not just 70s but early 80s. There are also a few jazz snatches (maybe a Shammi Kapoor touch). While Abhijeet is the perfect choice with his flawless rendition, Shreya gets high pitched in a few parts. This is the song that has been composed by the legendary composer, Pyarelal (of ‘Laxmi-Pyare’ fame) the song will look and sound better on screen.
Jaltarang and piano combine magically, followed by bead sounds, accompanying Sonu Nigam’s silken smooth, Rafi like rendition. Yes, we have now reached ‘Main Agar Kahoon’. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics combined with Sonu’s extraordinary singing create an almost bewitching romantic duet (with an in form Shreya). The two stars of the outstanding ‘Main Agar Kahoon’ are Javed Akhtar’s lyrics and Sonu Nigam’s singing. Right now, we cannot bring in Sonu but here are some of Javed Sahab’s lyrics – “Tumko paya hai to jaise khoya hoon, Kahna chahoon bhi to tumse kya kahoon, Kisi zabaan mein bhi, Woh lafz hee nahin, Ki jinme tum ho kya tumhein bata sakoon , Main agar kahoon, Tumsa haseen, Kaynaat mein nahin hai kahin.” A nostalgic throwback to the golden era of late Mohammad Rafi-Roshan days! The number concludes with the ‘Om Shanti Om’ theme music.
‘Dastan-E-Om Shanti Om’ can well be summed up as one of the most important (if not the most) tracks of ‘Om Shanti Om’. It sums up the entire central theme of reincarnation and betrayal. The track commences with sonorous opera like singing, followed by a big live orchestra sounds from 40 plus violins, percussion instruments ranging from tabla and dhol to santoor and heavy piano pieces and the impact leaves one awestruck. Shaan soon commences in a rather base and matter-of-fact voice “Sunne waalon, Suno aisa bhi hota hai, Koi jitna hanse, Utna hi rota hai, Deewani hoke haseena, Khayee kya dhoke haseena, Aao tum bhi aaj sun lo, Dastan hain ye ki us masoom haseena ne jise chaha, Woh tha andar se harjaee, Sangdil se dil laga ke bewafa ke haath aa ke us ne ek din maut hi payee, Ek Sitam ka fasana hai jis ko sabhi, Kehte hain Om Shanti Om.” For the fans of ‘Ek Haseena Thi’ (’Karz’) this one tries to recapture the spirit of the legendary song. With a somewhat different approach and kudos to the team of Vishal & Shekhar, Javed Akhtar and the orchestra, it succeeds in a big way, despite the big legacy it had to live up to. Shaan’s singing, to some stunning situational lyrics and the big orchestra sounds are guaranteed to make ‘Dastan-E-Om Shanti Om’ one of the highlighted tracks of the film.
‘Dastaan (The Dark Side Mix)’, by Zoheb, DJ Nikhil Chinappa and DJ Naved commences on a faster tempo. The version loses some of its suspense and edge-of-the seat element due to too much audio interference.
Richa Sharma, the queen of Punjabi folk singing, commences the heart touching, ‘Jag Soona Soona Lage’, with a ‘heer’ style singing. She deserves a perfect ten for her flawless rendition. The OSO theme music has been used to superb effect with Kumaar’s Punjabi lyrics. Then its Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who after ‘Laagi Man Ki Lagan’ (’Paap’), ‘Bol Na Halke Halke’ (’Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’) and ‘Main Jahan Bhi Rahoon’ (’Namastey London’), has truly inherited the legacy of his illustrious uncle, the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. But let us not deviate from the superbly composed, as well as rendered composition. V-S deserve all the praise for a number that is just perfect in all departments. Be it, at times soft and at times harsh musical arrangements (in form of plates and guitars), Rahat’s brilliant performance and last but not the least, Javed Sahab’s heart-wrenching lyrics in simple Hindi and Urdu. “Roothi roothi saari raatein, Pheeke Pheeke saare din, Veerani see veerani hai, Tanhaai see tanhaai hai, Aur ek hum hain pyaar ke bin, Har pal chin.”
Is ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ the highlighted song featuring almost the who’s who of Bollywood? All seems to point to it. In a way, this one is also the theme track as the fun gaiety, party song goes ” Aqlo hosh na mee danum” (which is in Persian and means “I know not what is wisdom and sense”), Hum hain dil aur janam, Bas dewangi deewangi dewaangi hai”. The chorus also chants, “All the hot girls put your hands up and say Om Shanti Om. All the cool boys c’mon make some noise and say Om Shanti Om”. The trade mark OSO tune is also present in its grandeur. Definitely a scorcher of a track, which gets turbo charged by talented singers like Shaan, Udit Narayan, Rahul Saxena, Shreya and Sunidhi. The track concludes with the orchestra going full blast with the OSO tune.
‘Deewangi (Rainbow mix)’ by DJ Kiran and DJ G is a nice piece of work. The already pacy all-star cast song has a more hectic pace than the original. The vocals have not been violated much, only the musical arrangements change to give it a good effect.
The ‘Om Shanti Om’ theme music (programmed by Abhijit Nalani) has Pyarelal written all over it. It is a superb piece, played brilliantly on piano. It starts with a slow pace, picks up and finally concludes on a slow note, but it is enough to leave a mark on the listener.
The ‘Om Shanti Om (medley mix)’ by Jackie V. is an assortment of a few songs (remixed superbly) featured in the album. The snatches of ‘Dhoom Tana’, ‘Dard-E-Disco’, and ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ can be relished once again through this version.
To sum it up, the Pyarelal touch looms large on the audio of ‘Om Shanti Om’. It is truly a complete 70 mm (a prestigious 70s & 80s term) album experience.
It’s a path-breaking work by Vishal & Shekhar, who break the myth about them being only rockish kind of composers, as they take on a melodious yatra from the early 70s to the present day.
If one is a fan of the melodious (non-synthesized) Bollywood era and even if one is not aware of it, it’s a must buy for all those who call themselves lovers of Bollywood.
Its melody and poetry.
If the initial response to the audio is any indication, ‘Om Shanti Om’ is all set to conquer the charts and stay there for a while.

Shah Rukh Khan refused to show his six-pack!
The cast and crew members (Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Kirron Kher, Shreyas Talpade and Arjun Rampal, music composer duo Vishal-Shekhar ) were mostly engaged in inane conversations. They quizzed each other about how it felt working with the soon-to-be-mother Farah Khan. Deepika Padukone even made candid conversations about how she got intimidated by her seniors. Despite all that she continues to like Bollywood because she doesn't enjoy shuttling around the badminton court. After she managed to fix her shoe sole with an adhesive, Kirron Kher didn't know how to react when her mobile started ringing loudly during her short but sweet speech. Vishal and Shekhar had apparently, rented out one piece suits for the evening.
While Shah Rukh refused to remove his shirt and display the six packs, Farah volunteered to show off her three packs (she's expecting triplets). Dressed in a black tee and brown jacket he confessed, "I'm scared of Saawariya and I have no problem admitting that. If I had a chance I would have postponed the film," said Shah Rukh Khan.

Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya on this Diwali
“Saawariya is a huge film. Our film is a secondary film and I will try my best to make it the nicest film of the year. There is no competition; there are enough people to watch a film. I'm very attached to Saawariya also because of my relationship with so many people in Saawariya. Of course, my own child is Om Shanti Om,” says Shahrukh.
While the media hype around Saawariya verses Om Shanti Om builds up considering, both films are releasing on the same day, it looks like SRK is going the reverse psychology route by placing as little expectation as possible on his film. It certainly worked for Chak De India.
Shahrukh is also making sure he doesn't tread on any influential toes and is full of praise for the competition.
“I have a lot of respect for him as a friend, and as a director. His film is being presented by Columbia TriStar; there are many big stars in it. It’s got Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, and two youngsters who respect me - Ranbir and Sonam. So I have respect for that film and I wish it all the best,” SRK said.
But while Saawariya may have the star kids and of course Bhansali's genius, Om Shanti Om has another weapon in its arsenal - SRK's six pack - and we just had to ask him how it feels to be rippling with muscles all of a sudden. “I feel good having done this and I would tell all the youngsters to please work out, whether you run, or play sports,” he said.
Besides a buff SRK, what else do we have to look forward to from Om Shanti Om? Is the film as meditative as it sounds? “One is Om Kapoor and one is Om Prakash Makhija. Both of them form the 'Om' Shanti 'Om'. This is not a religious or meditative film,” said SRK.
Well a meditative film it may not be, but we certainly know a lot of fans who are going to be in a state of nirvana when SRK struts his stuff.

SRK, Farah grandly release the Music of Om Shanti Om
Music directors Vishal and Shekhar have composed the songs of the film, while lyrics of most songs have been penned by Javed Akhtar, music director Vishal has also written lyrics for the song Ajab Si, which is currently on air.
"We have never worked on such a large scale for the music of any film, with so many musicians and singers," said Vishal at the launch.
Commenting on the music, actor and producer Shah Rukh Khan said, "There is a lot of variety in the songs. Since the first half is based in the 1970's era, we even requested Pyarelalji do the arrangements for a song."
A live orchestra of 140 music pieces was arranged for the song Dhoom Tana.
Commenting on Vishal and Shekhar's work Farah Khan said, "The music is very different from what Vishal and Shekar's previous movies' songs. The songs of Om Shanti Om are experimental but at the same time very commercial."
While one of the songs in the film has almost 36 film stars in it, another song Dard-E-Disco has Shah Rukh Khan flaunting his six pack abs for which he worked rigorously for three months. "Farah was always keen to shoot a topless song with me, she even made me wear a vest in the Kaal song," joked Khan.
Farah added, "Dard-E-Disco was the last song choreographed by me, so I pleaded Shah Rukh to do a topless song for me. Now, as a choreographer I will only take up international projects or my own films. Besides this I will not choreograph anymore... not for Karan Johar, Shirish (her husband) or Sajid (her brother)."
