'World's Most Popular Movie Star' SRK , Walks the Red Carpet
World Premiere of `Om Shanti Om' held in London
London (PTI): Ecstatic fans cheered Shah Rukh Khan and other Bollywood stars who descended at the famous Empire theatre in the heart of London last night to attend the world premier of one of the most awaited film of the year 'Om Shanti Om'.
Present at the Red Carpet World Premiere were Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the main role Om, debutant actress Deepika Padukone, actor Arjun Ramphal and budding star Shreyas Talpade.
The film, being released world-wide today, revolves around Om (Shah Rukh Khan), a struggling actor in the 1970s. He is a big fan of Shanti (Deepika Padukone), a superstar. Om is so much in love with her that he is ready to give up all his dreams. It is all about love, dreams, betrayal, reincarnation and destiny.
The film also brings together over 30 of Bollywood's hottest stars including Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and many more, putting a guest appearance in the film's title song.
Shortly before the premiere, Shah Rukh Khan told newsmen that the Indian films have really come of age and beckons global audience. And there was no better place than London to launch it because of the vast NRI community and their continued patronage to the Bollywood films.
"This is a film on Indian films and the youngsters who had acted in the film were quite fantastic."
He also emphasized the need for properly marketing Indian films. "I believe my film is the biggest in the world and there is no competition while I wish better to luck to Sanjay Leela Bansali's Saawariya which is also being released on Friday."
Shah Rukh Khan said he would like to make films which will be watched by the world. "You give me any role, I will try to make it memorable role," he said, adding "we are here to sell hope and dream."
He described Deepika Padukone as a supermodel. Answering questions, Deepika said she could not have asked for a better launch. "Personally, I could not have asked for a better launch. Shah Rukh Khan is my favourite actor and I got a lot of tips from him during the shoot," she said.
Asked whether she was nervous on the eve of the release of her maiden film, Deepika said "I'm not nervous. This is the most exciting Diwali for me."
Om Shanti Om is Deepika's first Bollywood film though she had acted in 'Aishwarya', a Kannada film last year.
Arjun Rampal said he would not mind acting as a villain, particularly if he has a heroin like Deepika. Kishore Lulla, Chairman and CEO of Eros International, distributors of the film, said: "Eros has always enjoyed a fantastic relationship with Shah Rukh Khan and we are looking forward to the release of the film during the festive season of Diwali."
